On a literary note, the post was an A+, aside from being inspirational.

I've been self employed in one way or another for the last 16 years. HOLY CRAP, am I that old? OMG, I hadn't realized that. Oh, dear lord...NO!

OK, I'm back from a minor heart attack.

What I was going to say was the advice a mentor of mine gave me some time back. It's so simple, yet so profound in self employment of any kind. Here 'tis:

Throughout the day, many times, ask yourself "Is what I'm doing, RIGHT NOW, likely to make me money?"

If you've spent more than 10 minutes designing your business card, you're not making money. If you spent more than 5 minutes choosing colors for your website, you're not making money. If you're on the phone talking about what you're "gunna do" once "that happens" you're dreaming. Start doing, and dreams will happen.

Self employment often entails wearing multiple hats. Wear the one that suite you best...and pay someone to do the rest.

Annie – your comment about the orange picture made me laugh. I'm lucky the camera didn't break when they retook my picture. I wish you all the best. It's funny that in the beginning we wanted to be at work at 7:30 to make a good impression. Now I can barely get to work at 8.
