“Content is king.”

It sounds good in principle. Produce a truly great piece of content, and you’ll get all the links you could ever hope for.
Maybe it worked too, several years ago. The Web used to be a fairly quiet place compared to what it is now, and it was easier for people to notice great blog posts.
But not anymore.
Now great is no longer good enough. The Web is full of so much remarkable content that bloggers don’t have enough time to read it all, much less link to it.
If you want links now, you need to be more than great. You need to be connected.

http://arthur-internetmarketing-guide.blogspot....

Totally agree, Ryan. Gary Vaynerchuk says the same thing about the marketing queen and how that is what truly runs the household. I was motivated to write this post because I get frustrated by the focus people place on content...then complain when the masses of readers don't just magically show up. Content needs to be there, yes, but marketing is what's going to give that content its value.

Nice Post, Annie. A colleague of mine over heard a speaker at the Inbound Marketing Summit last month say something related to your post that resonated with me and that is: "If Content is King, then Links are Queen, AND THE QUEEN RUNS THE HOUSE." A thought provoking quote from a prominate speaker in the internet marketing world was re-enforcing the SEO value of links. Developing and maintaining quality relationships is IMHO the best way to attract quality links (the Queen). :)
